If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”
– Antoine Saint-Exupery

Amena first met the Osage team in July 2018 when she became CEO of VividCortex. The company grew quickly, and 17 months later, VividCortex was successfully acquired by SolarWinds at a 5X valuation over the prior funding round.  She joined Osage as an Entrepreneur in Residence in July 2020.

Amena has spent more than 25 years successfully leading revenue generation efforts at startups, middle market and public companies, with 17 years in enterprise software and SaaS. She was CRO at Whisker Labs after serving as the senior marketing executive at several companies including Earth Networks, WeatherBug, Arxan Technologies, Softek Storage Solutions (acquired by IBM), and Legato Systems/OTG Software (acquired by EMC).

Amena started her career as a management consultant at Bain & Company. She earned an MBA from the Yale School of Management, and a BA in Psychology with a minor in Economics from Wesleyan University.

Amena resides in Bethesda, MD with her husband Gus. They have two grown children.

Biggest Life Event: Turning down Goldman Sachs to join Bain & Company. The first day of my first job I had lunch with this older man (he was 23, I was 21) who laughed at my jokes. I married him. Thirty-five years and two kids later, we are still together.

Go-to Karaoke Song: Cold Play’s “Viva La Vida (“I used to rule the world…”) I sang it at our company party two days after we were acquired, marking the end of my CEO gig at VividCortex!

Favorite Place to Visit:  Pre-pandemic, Istanbul, Turkey, or perhaps Buenos Aires with its outdoor cafes. Now, going to the golf club a mile away to hack away as a novice.

Alternative Career Path: Fast food? I flipped burgers at Burger King and did marketing for a summer at Roy Rogers.  Thank goodness I discovered technology!
