Managing Partner
Bio

“I am often struck by the generosity of our entrepreneurs and their management teams. Although they are, to a person, highly-driven and competitive, they also belong to a community of life-long learners and intelligent risk-takers and, when they recognize a fellow-traveler, are eager to share their experiences and wisdom. Sharing this vision, we are committed to a relationship rather than a transactional model of venture, reflected in our partnering with the same entrepreneurs through multiple start-ups.”

Bob founded Osage Partners in 1990 and has built a track record as a top-performing venture investor. Along with the other Managing Partner, Bob is responsible for overseeing and approving all Partnership investments and all other Partnership and organizational activities.

In addition to founding Osage Partners, Bob is a founder and Managing Partner of Osage Venture Partners (currently investing out of OVP IV) and Osage University Partners (currently investing out of OUP III). He is also the founder of Cimarron Healthcare Partners, a PE firm focused on lower-middle market healthcare investing. Previously Bob founded Osage Industries, a PE firm focused on industrial manufacturing companies, and RAF NetVentures, a top-decile, 1999 vintage venture fund focused on early stage dot-com investing.

Bob is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he is a partner in a fourth-generation family business. Prior to founding Osage, Bob clerked with the honorable Walter K. Stapleton, U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and practiced corporate law at the Philadelphia law firm of Wolf, Block, Schorr & Solis-Cohen. He is a graduate of The Yale Law School, where he was an editor of The Yale Law Journal, and of Yale College, from which he graduated summa cum laude.

Bob is a trustee of Thomas Jefferson University, where he chairs the Innovation Pillar, and is a former Chair of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and trustee of its former parent, Jefferson Health System. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, is a member of the Advisory Council of the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute and serves on the Investment Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and on the Business Development Committee of The Wistar Institute. Bob has served as a past member of The Yale Law School Fund, as a trustee of the Board of Friends Central School and as a former President of the Board of Trustees of The Philadelphia School.

Bob has been an early stage investor in numerous successful startups, including Zany Brainy, Internet Capital Group, US Interactive, SevOne and Cema Technologies. He is currently on the boards of Halfpenny Technologies, Katabat, SevOne, and VividCortex.

Bob and his wife Marta reside in Merion, PA. They have three grown children.

MORE ABOUT BOB

Favorite Book or Author:  I don’t have a favorite, but I know I am most grateful to Albert Camus and The Stranger, which I repurposed for three different papers in college.

Favorite or Biggest Life Event:  If my wife is reading this, it is definitely the day I met her in nursery school (she sized me up with one look and decided not to bother to talk to me until seventh grade).  For everyone else, one of my favorite life events was running a two hundred mile relay race in Vermont with my extended family, including my parents and children.

Go-to Karaoke Song:  Almost anything – how about Daniel by Elton John?

Favorite Place to Visit:  The Gallatin Range in Montana, near Livingston.  Big sky country, great hiking, great people.

A Bucket List Item:  Hiking Bhutan, biking Alaska

If you weren’t in venture, what would you be doing?  Struggling with feelings of envy.  I suppose I would be in PE, where my career began.
